ROLE: SEND Sessional Playworker (Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)

SALARY: £15.00 PER HOUR

LOCATION: WANDSWORTH, SOUTH WEST LONDON

DAYS AND HOURS: SATURDAYS (TERM TIME), 4 HOURS PER WEEK (9:00AM – 13:00PM)

Are you passionate about play and inclusion for SEND children in education and looking to make a difference? We are currently seeking dedicated Sessional Playworkers to join our team on a zero-hour contract. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, supporting a range of children and their families across various activities and initiatives in the Wandsworth area.

The Fair Play School C.I.C. is a not-for-profit organisation which offers learning and play opportunities for primary-aged children with special educational needs and disabilities. We are a new company founded by experienced, qualified professionals who are seeking like-minded educators. Day-to-day of the role:

• Leading activities for children with SEND in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum.

• Supporting children with SEND to explore, engage and participate in a range of ability-appropriate activities.

• Embedding The Fair Play School’s values and ethos of inclusivity and diversity throughout all teaching and learning.

• Participating in stay and play sessions and family workshops.

• Supporting children with personal care when required (training will be provided).

• Creating a child-friendly environment that considers all Health and Safety requirements.

• Making the best use of the environment and equipment available.

• Keeping the play equipment and toys clean, well-maintained, and sterilised where applicable.

• Safeguarding children in line with The Fair Play School’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.

• Passionate about supporting children with SEND to achieve their full potential.

• Enthusiastic, fun and energetic with an upbeat, positive attitude.

• Innovative and resourceful teaching methods.

• A brilliant sense of humour!

Skills, experience and qualifications:

• At least 1 years’ experience working with children aged 5 – 11 years in a school, play setting or other relevant environment, preferably in a SEND role.

• A keen interest and evidence of knowledge, training, CPD and/or qualification in SEND.

• Knowledge of safeguarding children.

• Ability to communicate on all levels, particularly with children.

• Some knowledge and understanding of Ofsted standards and the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.

• Ideally have an appropriate qualification in Playwork/Childcare at Level 3 or the equivalent.

• Co-operative and flexible, with the ability to lead, inspire and engage children to love learning, take risks and explore in a new environment.

• Ability to be proactive and work on own initiative.

• Confidence to take responsibility for setting up and running a successful activity.

• Willingness to undertake further relevant training as necessary.

• All staff will need to pass strict onboarding and safeguarding checks, including excellent references and an enhanced DBS check.
